For Energy Sensitive People: How to Handle Daily Life Without Burning Out
People who are energy sensitive and energy aware are important parts of this world. We are movers, shakers, students, parents, teachers, lawyers, business owners, and caretakers. We bring our unique flare of being able to ‘feel’ other people, detect the unseen in a situation, and all the great things that come with having these senses on and functioning to everything we do.
In this article, I address how the unseen layer of energy and our sensitivities may be impacting our day to day lives and what you can do about it to empower yours. Burnout happens but it does not have to be an inevitable state.

When we Become Burnt out
As many busy people can tell you, there comes a time in many of our lives when being ‘booked up’ leads us to a point where we feel bogged down. We start getting lethargic. Health problems start popping up. This leads to burnout, falling out of love with our lives, and sometimes having ‘breaking point’ moments.
- too tired to function outside of what is required
- cranky or highly emotional in an unregulated sense
- losing the spark or the excitement for what we do
- stress related health issues
The energy layer of Why we Become Burnt out
One of the things that we have to keep at the top of our awareness is: Every single thing that we do brings us into contact with energy. The phone calls, group fitness classes, board meetings that make up our lives each have a vibration and a signature.
Whether you are aware of it or not – people who are ‘busy’ or who lead full lives tend to come into contact with a lot of different people and thus, energy. This is where things can get a little overwhelming. Dealing with intense situations, or many situations in a row, without giving ourselves the opportunity to take care of our energy body to release the signatures or any ‘excess energy’ can leave us carrying around a big load of unseen ‘weight’. Because many people do not consider they are carrying around this load, they experience it but cannot quite place it. This is where becoming a hermit in free-time or doing things like ‘having drinks’ become coping strategies.
This is something that is very common. Even people who are living their dream can get energetically exhausted. In fact, people in this space often are the ones to become exhausted because they love what they do and put their most into it. If this is you, do not feel ashamed of yourself. You are not alone.
My story: Having a Nervous Breakdown Doing My Phd
I know this pressure well having met my first official ‘breakdown’ at 25 whilst doing a phd and working to pay for it. Being everywhere at once came with a cost to myself when I eventually drove myself directly into the ground.While I knew that I was ’empathic’ and able to feel energy at the time, I was unaware of how it could affect me in the workspace. Every exam graded, every class and meeting attended, every book read came with its own weight. Switching between different tasks exhausted me to the point of ibs and migraines. I know this pressure well having met my first official ‘breakdown’ at 25 whilst doing a phd and working to pay for it. Being everywhere at once came with a cost to myself when I eventually drove myself directly into the ground.
While I knew that I was ’empathic’ and able to feel energy at the time, I was unaware of how it could affect me in the workspace. Every exam graded, every class and meeting attended, every book read came with its own weight. Switching between different tasks exhausted me to the point of ibs and migraines. It was truly going through this experience and learning how to manage myself that I realized how important taking the spiritual aka soul aka energy layer into the wellness configuration.
One of the things I have learned since this time is that this rock bottom is totally avoidable.
Another thing I have learned is that energy and the state of a persons’ own energy field are two of the hidden weights that energy sensitive people carry which leads us to be more prone to burnout. This transcends into being cranky at home, getting sick, feeling like we are losing ourselves, not having ‘time’ for real life important things like family or friendship, not being able to regulate emotions, and a host of other negative impacts.

Creating a lifestyle that supports being energy sensitive
One of the key aspects of taking the invisible energetic weight that you carry in your life int (aka residual energy) is that once it is lifted – you tend to feel more joyful, energized and well.
The number one thing that is going to help you to avoid burnout is that you put together a personal wellness schedule that works with and complements your other life responsibilities. The idea here is that you build in what it is that you as a person require to remain balanced, grounded and self-connected as you go through your high responsibility life. Once that is figured out, the main thing is to remain consistent with regular moments of regulation, resetting and rest.
Sometimes, when you are an energy aware person, these moments are taking 60 seconds to smudge after a difficult client or 20 minutes to do nature immersion at the end of a long workday.
Though the knee jerk reaction to that can sometimes be, “I don’t have time” – the truth is, it does not usually take much of it to create a wellness routine that works for you. When you step into good habits and take little steps to be kind to yourself: you wind up having more of you for everything. Those twenty minutes of self-care you said you could not find once a week all of a sudden becomes a valued part of your schedule. You see its utility and you make that space.
