From Work to Home: Managing Energy for Positive Relationships
Energy is everywhere. Although invisible, it is the currency of life. In one layer, it is like fuel defining how much ‘you’ that you have to give in a day. Your energy level is your ability to perform, be present, take care of your obligations, and to do care activities on yourself.
On another level, it is also what you carry with you and what you project. One of the most important parts of learning to manage it is recognizing where you are ‘picking it up’ in your auric field, what you are ‘projecting’ because of it, and through that, what you are able to do to proactively maintain yours.

What you carry with you impacts how people relate to you
Have you ever had an experience where people absolutely backed off from you, even though you were being kind and friendly? Did you ever go through a part of your life where you simply felt like you were not able to make friends or draw a relationship toward you no matter how hard you try? Have you ever gone to give a big hug to your partner or children and they stepped away from you?
- One of the reasons that may have been happening is that you were carrying ‘negative’ or ‘harsh’ feeling energy with you that they were sensing and reacting to. This is a common scenario for people who live or work in challenging environments. It also happens to people who have been processing their shadow or going through a tough inward emotional phase.
Alternatively, have you ever noticed how pleasantly things go for you in the world after you have spent a weekend being loved on? Or how you seem to be able to find the right people, places, and opportunities when you are taking care of yourself? What about that positive glow people mention you have after you’ve been meditating and working on self-care more regularly?
- Each of these are instances where you are generating ‘positive resonance’. When people come toward you, they are able to sense it.
How you pick up energy
Whether a person realizes it or not, each of us is connected to a broadcast system that tells the world certain things about us, where we have been, and what we have been focusing on aka our ‘vibe’ is. This is called your auric field. In this article, I talk about how your interactions with self and others at work, school, and home create imprints in your auric field and how simple acts of energy hygiene can be a game changer!
Auric fields are part of your broadcast system From an energy management perspective, your auric field is a key component in your day to day experience. It is the part of you that picks up energy in your environment for interpretation. It is also the part of you that broadcasts what type of person you are to the world around you. This is a general idea of what your auric field looks like.

How You Pick Up Energy in Your Auric Field
The layers of rings that you see in this image represent the energy of your field. These little bands and the spaces between them hold the frequency (currency) of your interactions. A person who has positive interactions, loving self-talk, and lives in a kind environment tends to have strong bands that feel pleasant to interact with. When you are with this person, you feel calm and able to relax.
Alternatively, a person who interacts with traumatic situations or ‘tough stuff’ at work or home tends to accumulate little bits and pieces of lower harmonic energy in their bands as depicted in the image, below. Though invisible, these little bits of resonance are able to be felt by you as well as the people around you. This is why it can be ‘heavy’ to be near them. The same applies to someone who is having negative self talk.
Think of interactions as having ‘strands’ of energy’. These strands have a tone. You carry the tone of energy of these strands in your field with you (until you do something to process or release them).

How The Energy You Pick Up in Work and Life Impacts Your Relationships
People who live or work in difficult environments, who take client sessions, as well as people who are moving through deep healing and going through their own ‘tough stuff’ often carry strands of this in their field. Even if they are perfectly lovely people, the presence of these strands sometimes push other people away from them socially and romantically. Partners, children, and friends can sometimes react negatively to this frequency.
(This is why sometimes when you are having a ‘tough go’ emotionally, it can be difficult to make new friends or have positive experiences socially. )
You as a person are able to ‘feel’ the energy that you carry with you (whether you realize it or not). Have you ever noticed yourself cranky or touchy in ‘home life’ when there is no readily apparent reason for you to be? How about having negative thoughts or becoming pessimistic when it is not generally your nature? Absolutely drained at a level you just cannot understand post-work or after dealing with family? Those are signs that you are carrying negative resonance with you. This, in turn, can make a person seem argumentative, withdrawn, or emotionally unavailable. Empaths will often play this energy out.
This, in turn, can negatively impact their quality of life. Especially if we have highly sensitive children, partners, or people around us who may be inadvertently reacting to what we carry with us.

The good news is that it is possible to work with energy hygiene techniques such as those I teach at my school and list below to keep your auric field clean, clear, and feeling good.
So how do you get there?
3 Tips for Energy Field Hygiene
One of the most common issues clients come to me for consultation on is how to stay strong, grounded, and self-connected as they move between work and home life. Here are some of the most impactful and easy to employ tips for energy hygiene I recommend.
A) Becoming aware of the energy strands that you engage in your daily life
If you are interacting with crime, work or live in a tough neighborhood, have a violent family member, deal with clients in hard situations, or sit next to a complaining coworker, you engage with what I call ‘harder harmonic’ or lower resonance bands of energy.
- take a few days this week and observe yourself through this lens; becoming more aware of this layer of what you encounter can be a real eye opener to what you are carrying with you that you may not be aware of.
Knowledge is power. Reading articles like this is a step in the right direction. So too is really observing yourself, your schedule, and what load you carry helps you become more aware of what you need for your field to feel strong.
*Remember to plan higher harmonic moments as part of that big picture wellness strategy.
b) Regular auric field cleaning, charging, and repair
One of the best ways to make sure that you are releasing the lower resonant energy strands from your field and maintaining a positive resonance is through daily auric field repair. Stated simply, auric field repair is when you take the time to metaphysically release lower harmonic strands and come back to your natural state.

- Activities like a 10 minute meditation + energy alignment practice where you strengthen your field and align your energy are a great way to start (and end) a work day.
Remember that it does not always have to be a ‘long’ practice to be one that works. Consistency brings results. (Sound good? This approach serves as the groundwork for my energy for daily life courses.)

C) Creating bookends
A bookend is a lead time between different types of interactions that you have. The concept is that you create an energetic margin between meetings, classes, clients, and responsibilities where you are able to take a few moments to reset, recharge, and refocus.
- Ten minutes between calls or clients *during which you do not text or email – you breathe and focus.
- If you have a difficult client or interaction, break out the smudge spray and shift the space
- Create an ‘end of day’ ritual where you let go of what you dealt with at work.
- Creating your schedule with moments for fitness, getting outside, and quick energy alignment moments that help you ‘let go’ and ‘refocus’ *these are great to do as part of the end of day ritual*
- When you do get home – let yourself be home. Unplug. Relate. Take your kids outside or do some of the afore mentioned activities (solo or with family). If you must check in to work – do it mindfully. Every time you go back to ‘work’ from your phone or computer, you re-enter that space energetically, even if your body is not there.
Bookends may take many forms -creating personally meaningful moments of respite and reconnection can be a real game-changer. Especially in this modern world. Being ‘on call’ and available 24/7 is unhealthy and leads to people feeling overwhelmed and burnout. One of the most important things you can do to maintain positive energy from work to home is to allow there to be boundaries and separation.

Learning how to recognize what you are carrying, how your environment impacts you, and how to reconnect with yourself between the demands of daily life can dramatically change the way you feel in your relationships, work, and personal wellbeing.
