How to Work with Equinox and Solstice as Spiritual Gateways

Equinoxes and solstices are spiritually powerful times where we are able to experience deeper spiritual connection, advance our pathway for soul growth, and plant the seeds for life transformation. Celebrated four times a year, Equinox and Solstice are spiritual gateway moments that we may work with to experience growth and to align our live path, with.

A spiritual gateway is a moment, place, or phase where you are able to access an energetic state of being, connection, or information flow. They are places you visit, turnings of the season, and states that create the opportunity for the astral and material parts of you to connect. Sometimes this results in information sharing; others deep healing; and others still, the birthing of new parts of yourself or your life path.

As you can tell by that definition, this is a topic that has layers. This particular article explores the spiritual power of Equinoxes and Solstice from the perspective of their roles as gateways for transformation. (It is part 2 in a series on the spiritual power of Equinox and Solstice.)

Earth energy increases: this opens the path

One of the important things that happens at Equinox specifically to make it more powerful is the increase in Earth energy flows that promote spiritual connection and soul growth.

If you have ever heard of the Russell McPherron effect also known as Equinox cracks – part of why this happens is that there is more ionic stimulation in our environment. This, in turn, stimulates some of the Earth energy flows that are powerful for humans. Other movements, like the sun and the moon, as well as ceremonial offerings done by the network of caretakers, medicine people, psychopomps, and shaman of the planet who work together, help to make this powerful.

The cliffs notes version is that when you connect directly to Earth – specifically in high flow places – you are able to draw this energy into your physical and spiritual body.

Equinox (and solstice) are times where you are able to ‘tune’ yourself with energy that helps you come into the state of being and energetic readiness to hear your soul and birth more of yourself into embodiment.

This very energy is part of what helps you hear your spiritual self as well as to endure soul growth. As a result, one of the reasons Equinox and solstice acts like a gateway is that the natural increase of these flows helps you meet the energetic conditions internally to be able to hear your intuitive self clearly, make change, or integrate/activate your growing soul.

Sometimes, the pathway is to ‘snapping in’ a part, other times it is to plant seeds, and others still – it is to transcend a state of being or life into another.

The Spiritual Crossing Points through Which Souls Travel Are Opened

All souls are on the move, including yours. Especially if you participate in meditation, ask yourself deep questions, or are working on soul growth or healing. In order for you to meet you, you journey through spiritual crossing points that serve as bridges from the metaphysical to the material world into yourself. As a psychopomp, bridging worlds and guiding souls to their connection points is the process that I am most often engaged in.

While this happens in atral space, it also happens in the world around and within us.

In the case of Equinox – much of the planet is humming at the frequency that promotes heightened vibratory capacity which allows us to meet the conditions within our physical body as well as our spiritual one to transcend a threshold to the self. It becomes easier to hear the self, to hear Creator or the Universe, as well as to set personal goals that will grow and come to fruition through the season.

Spiritual Self Connection + Nature Connection = Increased Capacity to Cross Inner Thresholds

How do you walk yourself through the gate? The crux here is twofold. Nature immersion blended with conscious self connection activities like meditation, talking to your soul, and intentionally aligning with the energy to transcend your inner thresholds. For the rest of this article, I will give a few basic suggestions that you may like to employ to empower your path.

One of the key things to remember is that while there are times that are more powerful for connection, it is not guaranteed that you will have a soul ‘pop’ experience where everything clicks in during a gateway moment or when you visit a physical one. While that can occur, it is more often the case that you light a spark of awareness or connection that comes to a flame over a period of nurturing, choice making, and spiritual grounding.

Planning Nature Immersion

One of the things that powers space based gateways is the precise energy flow that heightens during Equinox (with high points being March 20 – mid April, and mid September through Samhain). While it flows all year long, there are moments where it is more powerful. During these times, planning to immerse yourself in nature and to spend as much time connected to the Earth is going to help you meet the vibrational charge that you require to transcend a gateway.

Go Where Your Heart Calls You

Throughout this and other soul crossing moments – you may notice that you feel drawn by your heart to a park, tree, stream, or town. In these instances, there is a chance you are being summoned to a spiritual gateway that exists on the land or to something that is going to help you ground and actualize the part that you are working to integrate, now.

I encourage you to visit these spaces and – when doing so – allow yourself to feel, enjoy, and be inspired. You never know that the art, friendly experiences, tree sit, or canal walk can do to evoke positive learning and growth in you.

If you have been connecting to the Earth and yourself, your intuitive voice will be stronger. Listen and enjoy where you bring yourself. More on that in the next suggestion!

Giving Yourself the Space to Heal, Experience, and Listen

During (or at) a gateway, a person is able to experience soul growth, have deeper connection to their spiritual voice, and to ask deep philosophical and spiritual questions to themselves, Creator and the Universe. The formula for this is simple: ask, experience, listen.

As we do this – we learn.

Sometimes, we get answers to the questions we have been asking in life – about that job, the relationship, the path. In other moments, we get harder lessons – like what happens when we abandon ourself, or what the play-out of a particular form of action may be. Equinoxes are teachers just as much as they are gateways. It is up to us to see the truth being shown us. Seeing something hard does not mean you are doing something ‘wrong’. It means that you are at a part in your maturity where you are ready to deal with it.

Taking time to unplug from the phone, to intentionally meditate, to talk to your soul, to do spiritual alignments, and to seriously focus on your own soul growth, your own sacred connection, pays off. Solstice and Equinox are known to be supportive to invoking these deep experiences. This is part of why they have been observed as spiritual gateways throughout the world and generations.

I recommend doing this each day during a gateway – you will be surprised at what you learn when you sit and listen.

This is How to Create the Most Powerful Gateway Experiences

As a psychopomp, walking people through gateways is my ‘thing’. The most reliable way to have powerful gateway experiences is to intentionally align with and prepare for them. What you do during Equinox or solstice is important; it can be greatly enhanced by what you do in the seasonal lead up to it. If you feel inspired by this article: get out there and walk this gate. As soon as it is over, begin preparing yourself for the solstice one. When you start this early – you are surely to have an incredibly powerful transformation, next season.

As for myself – Equinoxes are always my most favorite time of year. As a psychopomp but also as a person who is also on the spiritual path. I love the work that I get to do for our collectives. I also dearly appreciate the clarity, the guidance from Creator, and the quiet moments of checking in that come with it. This is a powerful time to transform yourself, seek deep connection, and to transcend inner walls. This is why cycle after cycle, season after season, I will keep talking about it.
